SHORT TRACKERS All cars, bodies and parts are to be showroom factory stock with no alterations unless specifically allowed or provided under the rules. Anything not clearly covered in the rules must be discussed with and approved by the NASCAR Technical Inspector. See COMMON GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS and other general rules as they are a part of this section also. 1. Competing Models. Any 1989 or older compact or sub compact with a wheel base of 90" thru 100.4'. Only the following models are eligible: Vega, Pinto, Mustangs (only Mustang that came with a 4 cyl engine), Chevette, Monza Astre, Sunbird, Pontiac T-1000, Capri, Skyhawk, Starfire, or Bobcat. No other cars without track approval. No interchanging of any kind allowed, must be: Ford to Ford, Chev to Chev, Pont to Pont, etc., unless otherwise stated. 2. BODIES. All cars must have complete bodies, including fenders, hoods and bumpers. No side windows of any kind. Grills may be removed. Reasonable trimming of fenders for tire clearance only. Remove all upholstery, rear seats, moldings, etc. Full floorboards required. All cars must have a heavy gauge steel floor boards and firewalls and all holes, fore and aft and floor holes (including trunk) must be covered. All inside metal must remain in car, no gutting of roof or doors. Rear end of car must be completely sealed including taillight openings and rear trunk. No aerodynamic devices such as air dams, spoilers, wings, vertical stabalizers, slant roofs, slant windshields, functional hood scoops or barriers to modify air flow unless specifically allowed. However, "Theme Cars", wings, etc. may be allowed with prior "Promoter's" approval. Doors must be welded, chained or fastened shut. No other use of chains. Outer 1 inch square rub-rail next to the body from front to rear wheel wells is permitted. No radiator fill holes or trimming allowed on hoods. Extra care must be taken to smooth edges, bumpers, bolt ends, etc. so as not to damage other cars or tires. All cars using a stock type bumper must have fender straps on both the front and rear and both sides. Minimum of 1/8 inch thick, 2 inches wide, and 6 inches long, with a maximum of 12 inches long. Exception, cars with nose pieces. A rear single plane spoiler with 5" maximum height, measured on the surface of the spoiler and up to the width of the trunk lid is allowed. No rudders or forward mounting brackets. Body-side skirts, front air dams, and replacement sheet metal allowed. Must meet ground height rule and officials approval. 3. ENGINES: The engine in the car must be the same as issued from the factory in stock position. Maximum of 4 cylinders and 140 CID or 2300cc (no iron-dukes) plus an overbore of .060 maximum. The 70-73 Pinto is allowed to run any Pinto engine provided it meets all other rules. No titanium, carbon fiber (except brake pads) or ceramic engine or drive train components. No aluminum rods or heads. No D-port heads allowed. Stock appearing valve lifter only (no roller or mushroom type). Any flat tappet mechanical cam allowed. No roller, mushroom or hard face overlay cams. No adjustable cam timing devices or sprockets. Valve timing gears must not be adjustable without removing belts. Stock rocker arms only. Iron sleeves may be added to the block. Stroke, connecting rods and crankshaft must remain stock. No oil coolers, accusumps, dry sumps or external oiling systems allowed. Mandatory oil pan inspection hole in oil pan accessible to officials with Motor in car. Ford Ranger exhaust manifold is not approved. A Maximum compression is 11.0 to 1, (11.1 to 1 is illegal). The "Whistler" will be used to determine legality unless engine is protested or torn down then actual measurement will be used. 100% factory stock intake and exhaust manifolds and cylinder heads. "100% stock means no cutting, buffing, grinding, drilling, welding, or other modifications (inside or outside) is permitted and plenum area must not be cut. No porting of heads. The intake and exhaust ports must be in the original "as cast' configuration. Any evidence of sanding, polishing, relieving, grinding, porting or the addition of material to the ports of combustion chambers will cause your heads to be declared illegal (and confiscated). The valves must be of stock size and material. Hydraulic lifter towers may be cut to allow for use of solid lifters. Any valve springs or retainers are permitted. Heads must be "Street Applicable," mass produced for street use. No off road, made for racing, high performance, non emission control approved, turbo, fuel injected or other aftermarket heads. Head gasket surfaces may be remachined (milled) to improve sealing, but must still meet compression rule. No spacers between heads & manifold. 4. CARBURETION: Factory production carb with no special adapters. Maximum of one holley 2 barrel (5200 series) carb only. Double throttle return springs working from two locations are required. No dial-ajet devices. No carburetor modifications other than jet changes and removal of choke plate (inner bore will be checked). Functional, stock type, air cleaner is required. No superchargers or turbochargers. One factory production (or exact equivalent) gasket in between carb. & intake only. No fuel Injection. 5. ROLL BARS: Minimum 4 point roll cage (see illustration). The two point cage (simple hoop) is not allowed. The main upright bars must be welded directly to the frame or fastened to floor of unibody with a minimum of 3/16th" thick and 10 sq. in. pad on top and bottom of floor welded and/or bolted securely to floor and located directly behind the driver and reach as close to the roof and sides of car as possible. They must be back braced from the top of the bars to the rear car frame. Material used must be a minimum of 1 1/2" in diameter steel round tubing with walls not less than .090 inch thick. No pipe fittings, square tubing, galvanized pipe, exhaust pipe or conduit pipe allowed. All welding must be electric, no welding ells. Some type of X-brace between roll bar uprights must be installed. Pad in driver's compartment. It is recommended that the doors be filled with foam insulation for extra drivers protection. Inner left door panel may be removed if 3 door bars (see diagram) are properly installed as a part of the roll cage. 6. SEATS: Seats must be mounted in an approved manner. Bucket type seat recommended. Split seat backs must be securely anchored in an upright position. Approved racing seat (no fiberglass) with head restraint is allowed. 7. SUSPENSION: Suspension system must be factory stock for subject car. Suspension system must remain completely and strictly stock, meaning: no welding, drilling, buffing, cutting, grinding, or other modification is permitted. No aftermarket parts, homemade, altered stock, etc. Any springs may be used (including racing). Springs may be changed, heated, bent, or cut. Spring spacers allowed. Springs must fit into stock mountings and buckets. No cutting, modification or altering of upper or lower control arms. General Motors style cars may, with officials approval, alter the lower control arm mounts to allow for camber adjustment. Camber, maximum 2 inches allowed on passenger side front wheel, and maximum of 1 inch on drivers side front wheel. Modifications must meet officials approval. No weight jacks. No aluminum body shock absorbers. No remote adjustable suspension or other unusual devices allowed in the drivers area. No rear sway bars. Elongated camber holes allowed on right front. No weight jacks or adjustable wedge setting devices. Urethene or metal bushings allowed. Any part that that would change stock geometry is not allowed. Offset bushings in lower control arms allowed. Camber rule should read as follows maximum 2” camber allowed on passenger side front wheel and maximum 1” allowed on drivers side front wheel 8. STEERING: Stock steering and location only. Steering wheel must be located within the stock distance to the firewall. Center of steering wheel must be padded and a collapsible steering rod is required. No steering ratio multiplier units. 9. TRANSMISSION, REAR END & DRIVE LINE: Stock rear end required, gear ratio optional. Stock transmission required, automatic must have working torque converter. Floor shift conversion allowed. No aluminum flywheel or clutch. Flywheel-No lightening or grinding, must be stock. Transmissions and rear ends must remain in stock position, no special adapters. Transmissions must have all forward and reverse in working order. Manual transmissions must have 3 (min) operable speeds forward and a reverse gear. No transmission "quick change units. Solid steel axles only (no gun drilled). Driveshafts must be one piece, steel. The driveshaft MUST be painted white for safety and a "U" hanger is required. No torque sensing type differential (like Tor-Sen Gleason, Quick Track, Tru Trac or similar). No chain type U hangers. 10. BRAKES & CLUTCH: Stock brakes in good working order on all four wheels. 100% steel pressure plate and steel or cast iron flywheel are required and must be of stock type, manufacturer and diameter. A functional full circle fiber-faced clutch disc is required. All cars: Foot operated brake, clutch and gas pedal must be in typical stock arrangement and working order. No high $ clutches such as: button, aluminum, multi disc, or other small clutches. No aluminum pressure plates or aluminum flywheel. Easy access by official to inspect disc and pressure plate must be provided. A steel bellhousing or clutch explosion blanket or scattershield is recommended. One brake bias adjuster allowed. 11. BUMPERS: Stock appearing and manufacture (no homemade) bumpers are mandatory front and rear and at stock height. Bumper ends may be trimmed and both front and rear must be capped with a plate covering the bumper end and running from the bumper and attached to the fender. No reinforcing, bracing or bulwork. Weld shocks on front and rear bumpers. Stock type bumper must have fender straps front and rear both sides. Minimum of 1/8 inch thick 2 inches wide and 6inches long. Maximum 12 inches long. Exceptions cars with nose pieces. 12. GLASS. A glass, lexan, windshield of stock size, angle and configuration must cover the windshield opening All other glass must be removed. Side windows must remain open, except for optional window nets, no side windows or coverings of any type. Headlights, taillights and turn lights must be removed and holes covered with flat metal. Rear lexan windows are allowed. 13. COOLING SYSTEM: Must use factory radiator, no racing radiators. Must have a overflow can in engine compartment that is working and securely mounted. Additional radiator bracing is allowed provided bracing does not extend rearward and is not bulwork or result in beefing up of front end. A fan shroud over a minimum of the top l/2 of the fan is required. Plastic flex-fans are allowed and recommended. No electric fans. No antifreeze. A fine of $100 will be assessed for using antifreeze. 14. ELECTRICAL: Any stock OEM 12 volt battery ignition allowed. No duel point distributor. No crank trigger, multiple coil, MSD (or similar), programmable ignition systems or other type ignition system that was not OEM. Battery must be securely mounted and in a marine type battery box (no rubber straps). If your battery is relocated into the drivers compartment, it must be located behind the driver on the left side of the floor of the car. All cars must have self starter in good working order and operation from the driver's compartment. All cars without key ignition must have a "marked" master kill switch, either toggle or push-pull, within reach of the driver and within reach from outside of car by the officials and safety crew. One battery per car only, size, location and installation must meet officials approval . 15. FUEL & GAS TANK: A safe and securely mounted, 8 gal. maximum, steel fuel tank is required (a outboard or thickwall GI tank is suggested, no plastic). All cars must have a properly installed fuel cell protection bar (Nurf Bar).The fuel tank must be in the trunk, near the front so as to be protected from rear end collisions and be mounted above the floor of the trunk. The fuel Line must exit the gas tank from its side or top and have a master shut off valve at or near the tank. No fuel Lines in the driver's compartment. No hidden fuel lines. The fuel fill must be made by opening the trunk only. Mechanical, stock type fuel systems and pumps only. No additional fuel reservoir or pressure equalizing systems allowed. GM cars with electric fuel pumps must have clearly marked turn off switch next to kill switch for hatch backs a roomy rear fuel compartment must be constructed out of steel to protect the fuel tank. Gasoline type fuels only, no alcohol, nitrous, oxygen or other additives. Specific gravity to be determined and checked. 16.TIRES: Street tires with a 6" tread width and l3" diameter maximum. No recaps or racing tires, except that the track tire available from Raceway Park. No soaking, treating, heating or etc. to change composition of tires. Anyone caught with tire softener in their possession or hauler will be fined $25 and softener confiscated. 17. WHEELS: Stock factory made steel wheels or racing wheels 6 inch maximum width, 3 inch backset minimum, measured face up from the ground to the center of the mounting plate. No wheel spacers. No shimming for or other offset allowed. Longer and oversize stud bolts and wheel nuts allowed. 18. EXHAUST & MUFFLERS: The exhaust system must extend past the driver and exit to the rear or left side of car. Mufflers required, Raceway noise levels must be met! 19. WEIGHT & GROUND CLEARANCE: Any added weight must be securely mounted to the frame structure. All weights must have car number painted on them. Loss of a weight will result in a $25 fine. All weight will be determined by the Raceway scales only. All cars must have a minimum ground clearance of 3 inches (except for exhaust), with driver in car. Mimimum weight for Chevette 1,800 lbs (with driver), Ford-2300 cc-2,300 lbs, 2000cc-2,000 lbs (with driver). 20 CLAIM RULE: The "engine" is subject to claim at a price of $300 for an outright purchase. In lieu of an outright claim and purchase of an engine, the claimee can elect to exchange engines with the claimer. In addition the claimer will pay the claimee $100. All cars qualified for the feature race are eligible to be claimed by any other car finishing the feature on the same lap as the leader provided they were also qualified for the feature.
